In a recent message Pastor Scott discussed the fact that as Christians we ARE the church of Christ, His body, His Holy people. We don’t go to church on Sundays, because the church is not a building, instead we are the church, when we gather on Sundays, but also every other day of the week. This theme ties in beautifully with Paul’s instructions on what a Christian household should look like, found in Colossians 3 and also in more detail in Ephesians 5-6:
And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. 22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. 25 For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her 26 to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word
– Ephesians 5:21-26
You see our family relationships should be an example of the church at work, living day by day in ways that glorify God and point those around us, like friends, family & neighbours, to Christ, the Supreme example of God at work in the world. Since Christ is our Head (a word that translates chief, master, lord and also foundation) we should seek to build our lives upon him as well as following him as our example and aspiring to be more and more like him in every area of our daily lives.
I pray that God would fill you with His spirit and give you strength to live a life of love and submission (to God and one another) that would attract people to the church and the Christ who we serve!
