While at a dinner party with the Pharisees, Jesus taught a number of parables to help them see the error of their ways and the much better way of life that was open to them through Him. One of these was about a Shrewd Steward
Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home. 10 “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. 11 And if you are untrustworthy about worldly wealth, who will trust you with the true riches of heaven? 12 And if you are not faithful with other people’s things, why should you be trusted with things of your own? 13 “No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” 14 The Pharisees, who dearly loved their money, heard all this and scoffed at him – Luke 16:9-14
In our lives God gives us resources to work with – time, finances, skills and abilities. The greatest thing we can do with these is use them for His kingdom – investing them in others rather than living greedy lives that are focused on our own pleasure and satisfaction. May we, unlike the Pharisees, see the true value of our God given resources and give them all back to Him. This is how we live as a wise stewards
