Recognising God’s voice

Hebrews 1:1-3
Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. 3 The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.

There is so much going on in the world today it can be hard to hear God’s voice amidst the noise of everyday life. What I’m realising afresh is my need to start by setting time aside to actually listen. Getting quiet, maybe with some worship music on in the background, sitting down, breathing deep and just being still for a while. Then opening the Bible.

Does God speak to us through other means? Yes certainly – I believe that He still speaks through dreams, visions, words from friends, nature, personal experiences, an audible voice, a conviction or general sense. But the primary way we hear from God has not changed in thousands of years – He sent His son Jesus as the final word. The life and teachings of Jesus have been faithfully recording in the Scriptures for us to read & digest.

I pray you hear from God and are obedient to His voice today
